Wigfull Challenge Cup – House Sailing Competition

Once again the inter-house sailing competition was held at Roadford reservoir this year. Each house nominated 6 helms to race single-handed around a triangular course.

Three separate races were held, each with two competitors from each of the houses, so with twelve boats on the water there were plenty of incidents at the marks!

Matt Courtis of Courtenay showed the way with an emphatic win in the first race, but could not prevent Russell house taking an early lead in the competition with Chris Barbour and Harry Coulton finishing second and third.

In the second race Oli Hancox recovered from a dreadful start to win for Russell, closely followed by Kyle Telford of School house and Teddy Searight from Courtenay.

In the third race Beth Barnes led from start to finish to record a second victory for Russell house and tremendous sailing from Ben Hancox and Alex Byrne saw Conway secure second and third to leap-frog School house in the overall results table.

Special mention should also be made of Jess Bailey who competed for Marwood in all three races and only capsized once!

Overall Result
1st place 17 points Russell House
2nd place 25 points Courtenay House
3rd place 42 points Conway House
4th place 43 points School House
5th place 50 points Newton House
6th place 57 points Marwood House
